Daniel Browns Departing message as Captain

Hi everyone. You have probably heard that I have decided to pass the reins on to Karl Shaw due to a number of reasons.  Firstly, my commitments at work are at an all time high and I don’t feel like I can commit fully to the job anymore.  It is not fair on the players and staff if the captain is not available for key meetings, training sessions and further practice, and for that reason a new Captain is a must.

Secondly, I feel it’s the right time for a change of direction and new blood at the top.

I would like to thank everyone for their fantastic effort and support that you have given me over the last three years.  Thanks to the Cricket Committee for their honesty and support through some difficult times, we would not have succeeded without you.

We as a squad/club have enjoyed the most successful period for decades and you and I should feel rewarded and honoured to play such a big part in that.  I certainly feel that we can enjoy our success and we should be able to talk about it with pride.

We came together with the club at the bottom of Division 2, and since then we have enjoyed a promotion season, 2 Charity Cup semi finals, a Joe Orton semi final and of course the final of the Charity Cup two years ago.

We are the first squad in the clubs history to reach Division 1 of the Everard’s cricket league which is another huge positive.

On a personal note, I feel that I can now contribute fully as a player and I look forward to scoring loads of runs for the club I love.  I think my game is better now than it has ever been and with the pressure of Captain removed, I can take my game to the next level which can only help the club.

I have no hidden agenda here folks, I have made this decision purely for the benefit of the club, my family and to support my work commitments and I am confident that the club will respect my decision.

We all need to step forward now and support new captain Karl Shaw.  He is ready for the job and I know he will do it with as much pride and dignity as I did (Well I think I did it with dignity anyway haha).

Thanks again for making my time as captain a wonderful one, and I can honestly say that I write this article with a tear in my eye.

Up the Town!!!
